REFLECTIONS | 2021 Birthday Giving

2023 will be an incredible milestone: Margie Gillis will celebrate 50 years of creation, love, and dance.

To commemorate Margie on her birthday on July 9th, please help us publish her new Artist’s book!

*** CAMPAIGN CLOSED ***

Planning for the 2023 festivities has begun, and we are asking for your help to develop an essential component of this project. Delays in launching the 2021 season is placing us in a challenging financial position. Now, more than ever, we must find funding to offset our losses.

Our Goal

To create a book that will share archival images with an artful representation of Margie’s recorded words. This evocative collage of imagery and poetry focuses on the Artist’s creative process and practice philosophy, and will be put together by Toronto based Artist, Curator, and Educator Kate Hilliard, and Graphic Artist and Photographer Sean Rees. Their aim is to capture a collection of  beautiful fragments from Margie’s rich history as Canada’s dance icon.

This Artist’s book is a token of joy and gratitude to Margie’s devoted community, and will be an invaluable contribution to the world of dance, made available to all in 2023.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for digitizing archival material and to help cover publishing fees. Please help us!

“…these (images) are not ready to drop into a book, but do give an understanding of the books creative process.”

– Kate Hilliard

“Try to feel that time is suspended and that you can float around and look at every piece of your life. Dance as if you understand the entire constellation of a second? Moving this way allows us to heal.”

– Margie Gillis
