FAIRE CORPS with Margie Gillis Celebrating 50 years of a career as a choreographer and solo dancer, Margie Gillis marked her 70th birthday on July 9, 2023.

In conversation with Marie-Gabrielle Ménard, the pioneer who introduced contemporary dance to China discusses the concept of risk that her parents, champion alpine skiers, always encouraged her to defy. In her youth, she spent very little time in school, finding it a hostile environment. Her art became her greatest teacher. Songs from Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Gilles Vigneault, Sinead O’Connor, and the poetry of Paul Éluard and Emily Dickinson inspired iconic works in her extensive repertoire. Since 1973, Margie Gillis has created over 200 dance pieces, and she recalls each of her creations.

Concept, production, hosting: Marie-Gabrielle Ménard.
