“My approach to dance is based on listening to the connection between spirit and body that transmits the information as to how, and with what quality to move.”
– Margie Gillis
Dancing from the Inside Out
Re-awaken the joy of movement using dance exercises, games and imagery. This workshop is tailored to the students. Beginners gain a better understanding of the body, while the more experienced acquire a greater knowledge of their unique way of expression. Participants are sensitized to the links between thoughts, emotions and movement. Emphasis is on observing the natural kinetic process: how our “inner landscape”, generated by electric impulses, is expressed in the muscles through movement. This in turn can support health, injury prevention, and convalescence.
Length: 1 to 2 hours
This workshop is tailored for professionals. Its aim is to challenge dancers to rediscover the wisdom of the body, and encourages experimentation, exploration and “thinking outside the box”.
Length: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Adapted for non-professionals who are interested in movement, this format provides an opportunity for participants to be introduced to Margie’s approach of Dancing From the Inside Out. The learning process is playful and stimulating!
This session begins with two or three short pieces from Margie’s repertoire. She then describes the inspiration and her creative process, on a theme chosen in collaboration with the host organization.
Length: 20 minutes to 1 hour
Depending on the format, these engagements can be directed to dance or health professionals, students, actors and to the general public. An exchange with the audience develops, ending with a Q&A, which allows the public to deepen its understanding of the many aspects of Margie’s work.
Margie strongly encourages the development of emerging artists. Currently, she offers support to Kyle Abraham, Adam Barruch, Chelsea Bonosky, Kate Hilliard, Troy Ogilvie and Susan Paulson.
All events can be tailored to the needs and requests of the organizer.
