DREAMING NEW PERSPECTIVES
Thanks to you, the Margie Gillis Dance Foundation raised $5328 to make our project a reality!
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
We are experiencing a paradigm shift. The arts will be at the forefront of change.
As one of Canada’s most distinguished artists of the 20th century, Margie Gillis has been leading the way in dance for decades. Her work reminds us of our inherent resilience.
Join us in supporting Margie’s upcoming solo creation to be captured on film as part of a series of 6 other works produced with the Legacy Project.

About this Campaign
In the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and the constraints to perform live, artists are compelled to find new ways of creating.
Dance films and video production have become all the more relevant and the time has come for Margie to channel the current state of the world and to develop the new solo that has been inspiring her dreams for years. This new work will be filmed in March 2021 as part of a series of 6 other creations produced with the Legacy Project.
Margie honours her instinctual nurturing nature and the sacredness of the Earth. Reconnecting to move forward is more essential than ever.
In the last 5 years, primary focus has been on supporting the artistic development of the Legacy Project. Creating & co-creating with this group of multi-generational artists has been invaluable. In order to replenish her well of inspiration, Margie will be spending three weeks in Hawaii with her beloved friend and collaborator, Rhiannon (if travel restrictions permit). This sacred time will allow her to process the last eight months of unrest and delve into her work.
Get Involved
We need your help!
The pandemic has forced us to rethink how we share the work, and costs of this new reality are high. Our goal is to raise enough funds to support the video production of Margie’s solo in the midst of a global pandemic. Money raised will cover the Director’s fee, Technical Director’s fee, Lighting Designer’s fee, music composition, costumes, and post-production.
Be a part of this initiative by supporting this joyful endeavour and contributing to its accessibility to all.
“To witness Margie in performance is to experience a palpable, life-affirming magic that is soulfully invigorating…Working with her has expanded my awareness and softened my approach, opening my whole body and mind to a new experience of trust and freedom.”
– Annmaria Mazzini, Legacy Project participant

The Legacy Project
In September, Margie and the Legacy Project dancers had the pleasure of presenting two solo programs in Victoriaville & Trois-Rivières prior to the lockdown in Quebec. Everyone has been working so hard to maintain the artistic development during these turbulent times. The Saint Mark’s Arts Project also continues unabated with the most recent development of a new dance floor for the Church in Acton Vale. Learn more about the Legacy Project here.
