The Soul of the Poet, Margie Gillis’ new creation, pays tribute to Gilles Vigneault through a choreographic fresco where every gesture extends the emotion of his poems and songs.

Nine performers bring his world to life in a succession of evocative tableaux, where the power of the collective alternates with deeply intimate solos.

Infused with Gillis’ love of nature and Vigneault’s rooted poetry, the work bridges tradition and modernity. Sixty minutes of poetic intensity where Margie Gillis’ signature movement language finds its fullest expression.

In her latest full-length solo, Margie Gillis delivers a poignant, intimate, and universal work, exploring with grace the passage of time, our relationship to our own bodies, and the image society projects onto aging women. Through a dance deeply inhabited—marked by falls and recoveries, losses and discoveries—she invites us to find warmth in the hearth of patience before the body’s transformation.

Already celebrated by more than 1,000 audience members in Quebec and Manitoba, this rare creation has garnered unanimous critical acclaim, hailed as an artistic experience of overwhelming intensity. A solo both timely and timeless, it reveals the beauty and resilience of maturity, and the infinite depth of the soul in motion.

Sensual and evocative movement that guides us in embracing our humanity. Under Margie Gillis’ artistic direction, the Legacy Project dancers unite to bring you Literature of the Body, a poetic and powerful double bill. Through two group works, the audience is treated to the inner workings of our soul’s journey while the poetry that resides in the art of dance is highlighted.

Notions of vulnerability, forced social change, loss and disruption, and the joy and sensuality of life all feature in this assemblage of works. 

Two stories are told. The first confronts the unyielding reality that an ever-growing part of the global population consists of refugees; a number that is only expected to drastically increase with climate change. Who are we in this state of statelessness? Who are we homeless and unmoored? The second is from the world of James Joyce’s Ulysses, and draws inspiration from the inner monologue of Molly Bloom, a free and untamable character. Her world, her community, her gentle outcast husband and the young intellect Stephen. Wild and wonderful, this townswoman and her true connection to nature win the day in a cacophony of coming to YES
