The Foundation

The Margie Gillis Dance Foundation is located on land that has long been a place of Indigenous gathering and exchange, notably for the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabeg Nations. We honour and thank the many Indigenous peoples whose presence has shaped this territory, which today welcomes people from around the world.
Margie Gillis had already been a professional dancer for eight years when the Margie Gillis Dance Foundation was established in 1981. Her choreographic work is entirely devoted to the exploration of the human soul, whether in the solo dances that make up the core of her repertoire or in the group works she has created. Her “inside-out” approach to dance unmistakably informs her creative process and lends a deeply personal quality to the interpretive work that has earned her international recognition.
The Foundation’s mission is to bring to life the artistic vision of choreographer and dancer Margie Gillis, while also advancing her commitment to the arts community. The MGD Foundation supports the creation, production, and presentation of the choreographic works of its founder.
